Leona Lewis‘Footprints In The Sand’ and ‘Better In Time’ is the new double A-side single from Leona Lewis.  This is her first release in the UK of 2008 and both tracks are taken from Leona’s massive number one album ‘Spirit’.  ‘Spirit’ was released in November 2007; it spent seven weeks at Number One  ‘Spirit’ has gone on to exceed monumental sales of  2 million!

‘Footprints In The Sand’ is the official song for this year’s BBC Sport Relief, which takes place between Friday 14th and Sunday 16th March.  Sport Relief harnesses the power and passion of sport to change lives for the better.  The first Sport Relief took place in 2006 and raised over £18 million.  Leona will be flying to Africa in the coming weeks to see for herself just how invaluable the charities work is.  All the money raised by Sport Relief is spent by Comic Relief to change lives.

‘Footprints In The Sand’ is based on the most universally downloaded poem ever by the same name.  Of this track Leona said; “I recorded ‘Footprints In The Sand’ in the UK with Steve Mac and it’s a very special song to me.  Originally it was a poem, it’s very inspirational so we put it into a song.  I think it is very moving, with a very emotional lyric and I really love to sing this song.”

‘Better In Time’ is an R & B tinged mid tempo track more similar to ‘Bleeding Love’.  It’s melody driven, beautifully simple and moving lyrically dealing with failed romance.

2008 has already started on a high for Leona.  On January 15th the nominations for the BRIT Awards were announced with Leona dominating with an impressive four nominations (British Female, British Album, British Single and Breakthrough Act).  Leona’s international profile has also been on the rise with ‘Bleeding Love’ scoring major international success reaching number one in Austria, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.  Leona has been jet-setting between the US and Europe since the start of the year appearing in some of the world’s most prestigious magazines and booked on some of the most high profile television shows.

2007 was an incredible record-breaking year for Leona Lewis.  In October Leona released the single ‘Bleeding Love’.  Not only did it break the record for being the biggest week one selling single of the year it also broke the record for being the biggest selling single of 2007.  It stayed at Number One for an incredible seven weeks, which these days is unheard of.  Since it’s release ‘Bleeding Love’ has sold over a million copies! After heading straight to Number One Leona continued her trend for breaking records when ‘Spirit’ became the fastest-selling debut album of all time, having sold an incredible 375,872 copies in its first week of sale – a record previously set by the Arctic Monkeys, who sold 363,735 copies of ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ in January 2006.  It was clear to see that Leona fever was taking over the country at a tremendous pace when the album sold a phenomenal 130,000 copies in its first day on sale, outselling the rest of the Top 10 altogether; this meant that, on average, the album was selling an amazing 200 copies a minute!
